How Halal Restaurants Respect Muslims
Many of us have read the term “halal,” but not many of us know what it means. Halal can be seen on food labels and restaurants. The term is important for our Muslim pals because it shows what is allowed for them to consume by their Islamic dietary law. In a nation with inhabitants of different religions, the term halal is very important.
Muslims in Islamic nations don’t have problems eating in halal eateries and picking up halal items as most likely than not, they are halal-certified. But for those who are in countries that have mixed religious groups, halal is not as rampant as they would like. Good thing that more establishments are now becoming conscious of their customer’s preferences.
The word halal simply means legal, which implies that if an eating establishment declares they are halal-certified or a food product has this term on its label, the preparation of their items is in accordance with the Islamic law. Muslims, therefore, are allowed to use or consume the product.
So what is permitted in Islamic law? There are a number of guidelines, but let’s begin with how a meat should be prepared. An animal should be butchered by cutting its windpipe and gullet rapidly. This method of ritual slaughter is believed to kill instantly and painlessly.
If halal means legal, haraam is the reverse. Muslims are not allowed to eat haraam products, such as alcoholic drink and pork. A halal-certified eatery and a halal-approved food product should not include such ingredients. Also, they should be mindful ofhow they prepare the food, avoiding any contamination. If a spoon was already used for a meal with haraam ingredients, it should not be used anymore to make halal-approved meals.
Haraam items also consist of blood, birds of prey or carnivores, animals killed in the name of anyone but Allah, corpse of an animal, or those that have been sacrificed to another deity.
There are Muslim groups who state food products as halal and give halal certification to eateries. Products that have halal certification are the ingredients used by halal eateries to make sure that they follow the Islamic dietary law strictly.
Nowadays, more and more food establishments not run by Muslims still make great effort to adhere to Islamic dietary laws. Those eateries show that they honor and respect all their clients, regardless of their religious preferences.
