Genre
Etymologically, the word “Genre” is of French background and has the meaning of sort or kind. This notion refers to a set of topics and motives, which are considered the norm throughout arts, and literature is not an exception. Following such norms, the author makes the book easy to read because the reader is able to recognize these thoughts and feelings, which he or she sees in it and is thus able to anticipate certain plot details, predict character behavior and the final outcome. It might seem that genres are fixed and stable, however in reality they turn out to be quite versatile and flexible. Of course one cannot argue that they are deprived of stability — for several thousand years they remained fixed and resisted change, however nowadays are incredibly dynamic and changeable.
