Some Key Things You Should Know About Offset Printing
Most companies need a printing service on a regular basis, whether it is for promotional purposes or intra-company communication. Hence, it is good to have some basic knowledge of how printing works, particularly offset printing, which is one of the most widely used printing technologies.
Offset printing can generate a large number of prints quickly, which makes it more economical than other techniques and also more popular. The customers giving big printing orders are advised by the printers to opt for offset printing due to this reason.
The ink used during offset printing has oil as the medium and does not dissolve in water. In offset printing, rubber blankets play a transitional role in copying the image on the paper, which is originally on the plate.
First step is to develop the graphics. Film negatives were used in the past for making images and then copying them to aluminum based printing plates. This is no longer required as the technology exists for making the plates in one step through an image setting system. After this, the plate is attached to a cylinder with the right side facing upwards. Thereafter water, and then ink, is spread on the image plates. While the ink gets fixed to the image, the water gets attached to that part of the plate which has no image so that the ink does not spill beyond the image.
The image is then transferred from the plates to the rubber blanket spun on another cylinder, so that it is reversed. The image is reversed to its correct side by transferring the image to sheets that have been cut in line with the requirement and are placed on a different cylinder.
The work of printing is completed by the printing company by providing the final touches to the printed sheets using staples or glue or in any other way as per the requirements of the client.
